National Age Group Squad

This is the top squad, with swimmers aged from 12 years upwards.  These swimmers are expected to give the greatest commitment to their training and gala entry.  These swimmers have achieved County, Southern County or National Qualifying times. They have their own training plan and are required to do a set number of sessions per week to remain in this squad. 

County Age Group Squad

This is the top squad for swimmers aged 10 years and older. A high commitment level is expected from these swimmers with regards to both training and gala attendance.

Junior County Age Group

These swimmers train regularly, they are expected to attend a set number of sessions a week and compete in higher level meets to raise the level of their swimming to be offered a place in the next squad up.

County Development Squad

These young swimmers train regualarly and are expected to attend a set noumber of sessions per week.  They will learn the basic techniques of competitive swimming and consolidate their knowledge of all four competitive strokes.  They will also learn to tumble and do a surface dive.

Development Squad

This group is still working on basic technique.  They begin to compete in galas, consolidating their knowledge.  They should be showing a good commitment to their training.

Junior Development Squad

This group caters mainly for the younger swimmers moving up into the very young competitive squads.  They will learn the basic techniques of competitive swimming and consolidate their knowledge of all four competitive strokes.  They will also learn to tumble and do a surface dive.

Juniors

Younger swimmers who are unable to give as much commitment to their training but still want to swim competitively, improve and progress into a higher squad if possible.  

Seniors

Older swimmers who are unable to give as much commitment to their training, but still want to swim for fitness and compete occasionally.

When placing children into squads consideration will be taken of their age and ability, however the final decision rests with the Head Coaches.

It is a condition of Competitive Squad membership that, if you are selected for a gala, you do your utmost to attend and be in full club kit.  It is important to the club and your fellow swimmers that a full team competes.  All squad members are expected to take part in the club championships which take place annually in November.

Harrow & Wealdstone Swimming Club are very fortunate to be able to use the facilities at the Harrow Leisure Centre for the majority of their  pool-time – 24.5hours of pool-time per week.  The Leisure Centre has 1 large 8-lane by 33 metre pool, and 1 small training pool. 

In addition some training is done at Northwood College Pool Tuesday and Friday evenings, John Lyon Pool Thursday evening and Harrow School Pool on Sunday evening.  We also have the use of John Lyon School pool and Aspire during the holidays.
